Cost-Effective School HVAC Upgrades: Saskatoon Public Schools
Saskatoon Public Schools chose field-installed APR Controls on standard condensing units over variable-speed systems, cutting upfront cost across dozens of schools while improving dehumidification and equipment life.
The Challenge
The district needed to replace aging condensing units across 48 elementary and 10 secondary schools while staying on budget. Engineers first looked at variable-speed compressor solutions, but were concerned about the cost and complexity of digital scroll technology, as well as past reliability issues with hot gas bypass systems.
The Solution
Trane Saskatoon recommended the Rawal APR Control as a more affordable and efficient alternative. It provides variable capacity control with no additional electronics, and installs entirely within the condensing-unit section with no extra piping required.
