The Challenge
The station needed whisper-quiet HVAC to support live news production, including election coverage. Its single-zone VAV, designed for energy efficiency, ran discharge air well below design, causing low compressor runtime, coil icing, and condensation on the air-handler housing and the newsroom floor. COVID-era occupancy swings made performance worse, and alternative capacity-control technologies exceeded the strict noise criteria.
The Solution
A mechanical contractor recommended the APR Control to provide the variable-capacity behavior a chilled-water system would have offered, at significantly lower cost. It transforms the single-stage DX system into a variable-capacity system capable of matching the load.
