The Study

Two identical rooftop units serving the same building were run side by side for three months: one equipped with Rawal Devices capacity modulation on DAT control, one left as the standard control unit. Because the two units shared a building and a season, the comparison isolates the effect of continuous capacity modulation from weather and occupancy.

The Result

Over the study, the equipped unit logged 218 compressor starts against 951 on the control unit: 77% fewer total starts and 79% fewer lead-compressor starts, with zero compressor failures since installation. Because every start is the highest-stress event a compressor endures, fewer starts is the single clearest predictor of longer compressor life.

The longer, steadier run time also kept the coil doing the work of dehumidification: roughly 53% relative humidity was held through a full summer of patient-facing operation, without a separate reheat or dehumidification stage.
