Evaporator freezing happens when there is not enough heat load across the coil for the refrigerant conditions — low airflow or low load drops the coil below freezing and ice forms, which cuts capacity further and can send liquid back to the compressor. This explains the mechanism and how matching capacity to the load with the APR Control keeps the coil above freezing.
